In 1979, Joan Sechrist (Breslin) and Merlinda C. Burgos got together and planned a one day seminar with the intentions of getting renal dietitians in the area to attend and form a council. It was well received and in 1980, the Tidewater Council on Renal Nutrition (TCRN) was formed. We officially affiliated with the National Kidney Foundation in 1981. It grew from two RD's to approximately 15 renal dietitians serving the Tidewater area (Hampton Roads area now).
As the years passed, TCRN started holding a biennial seminar
on a regular basis and renal dietitians in the Richmond and Charlottesville area expressed the desire to become active members as well. Because of this, we eventually changed our name to the Virginia Council on Renal Nutrition (VACRN) to include RD's in the state. VACRN was recognized by the National Kidney Foundation in 1997 with Lesley McPhatter as its chairperson. The goal was to have two regions working on different projects and then planning biennial conferences together. Today, VACRN has approximately 40 members and has published six copyrighted materials.

Lauren is the renal dietitian for RAI Medical Drive in Gloucester and RAI Chesapeake Ave. in Newport News, VA. She graduated from James Madison University with a BS in Dietetics and did her internship with Virginia Tech University at their extenstion location in Falls Church, VA. She has been working as a renal dietitian for over 5 years.
Christie Marshall, RD ( Co-Chair )

Christie has been a renal dietitian for the last 17 years. She currently works in the Renal Advantage John Tyler dialysis unit in Williamsburg, VA. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a BS degree in Dietetics and completed her dietetic internship at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. She worked in the Cardiac Rehab Center at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and taught weight loss classes at Chesapeake General Hospital, before moving to Williamsburg and accepting her current position working with hemodialysis patients.

Donna is the Renal Dietitian for American Renal Associates (ARA) Dialysis Center in Mechanicsville, VA. She received her M.S. degree in Food & Nutrition from Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX. She is a Board Certified Specialist in Renal Nutrition (CSR), and has been in the renal field for over 11 years working with both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients.

Devon is the renal dietitian for DaVita East End and DaVita Hioaks in Richmond, VA. She graduated from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island with a BS in Culinary Nutrition. She did her dietetic internship at MCV VCU Medical Center in Richmond, VA. She has been working as a renal dietitian for 5 years.
Kimberly Dalimonte, RD (Librarian)

Kimberly is Registered Dietitian for DaVita in Charlottesville, VA.
She attended college at West Virginia University and got a BS in Nutrition and Dietetics and did her internship at Marshall University. She worked at Charleston Area Medical Center as RD specializing in neonatal / pediatrics nutrition for 3 years and then moved to Charlottesville VA.

Barbara is a Registered Dietitian for DaVita in Richmond, VA. She received her B.S. in Nutrition from Montclair University, in New Jersey. Barbara has been in renal care for over 18 years, working with both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients. She also does monthly group sessions on diet with people in the early stages of kidney disease.
