THE CKD NUTRITION PROJECT
The CKD Nutrition Project began back in 2007 following a presentation by Dr. Latos, where he included information collected from 2728 forms on how few patients were seen by a dietitian prior to starting dialysis. VACRN decided to study this problem and see if we could make a significant impact on the issue.
Our goals for this project are:
- To increase the number of CKD patients receiving diet counseling prior to the initiation of dialysis.
- To increase the number of Registered Dietitians providing diet counseling to CKD patients.
- To improve the nutritional status of CKD patients entering dialysis and therefore improving outcomes for these patients.
To achieve our goals VACRN is teaming up withThe Mid Atlantic Renal Coalition (MARC) to provide downloadable diet information for patients, in addition to, appropriate CKD nutrition information weblinks for patients and professionals.
